The Folklore Library
Every Monster Has a Story
Legends from around the world — the traditions that inspire the series.
Tradition & Fiction
Two kinds of truth
The tradition — what communities have told for generations. Legends differ between regions, families and storytellers, and no single description captures them all.
The fiction — how The Heirs of the Hollow reimagines a legend for the novels. These are creative interpretations, clearly marked, and never a substitute for the living tradition.

A Note on Respect
These stories belong to the people who keep them
The entries in this library are brief introductions, not definitive accounts. Longer, researched articles will follow. If you are part of a tradition described here and would like to offer a correction or perspective, please get in touch.
