Author · Explorer · Photographer · Storyteller

Every culture has its monsters. Every monster has a story.
Armand Poblete is an author, explorer, educator, and photographer whose fascination with the world's cultures, forgotten histories, and ancient folklore inspired The Heirs of the Hollow, an atmospheric supernatural horror series that takes readers across continents and into the mysteries that lie between the living and the dead.
For Armand, discovering the world began long before he became a writer.
Growing up in numerous countries, he experienced different cultures, languages, traditions, and ways of life from an early age. His childhood was shaped by unfamiliar landscapes, new communities, and the stories people shared about their histories, beliefs, and the things they could not always explain.
As an adult, his travels continued. Living and working in different countries brought him into contact with people from diverse backgrounds, each with their own customs, histories, and supernatural traditions. These experiences gave him a lasting appreciation for how folklore travels across generations, preserving the fears, hopes, and mysteries of the people who tell the stories.
With a background in zoology, Armand also spent time conducting fieldwork in Africa, including working with venomous snakes. His experiences brought him into close contact with the natural world, remote landscapes, and communities whose traditions offered perspectives far removed from modern urban life.
His passion for photography has also shaped his storytelling. A multiple-time National Geographic Photo of the Day winner, Armand approaches fiction with a photographer's eye, using landscapes, atmosphere, light, and shadow to transport readers into the places where his stories unfold.
His interests span science, technology, exploration, cultural history, and creative storytelling. This combination influences his writing, where ancient beliefs encounter the modern world and characters must navigate mysteries that challenge both logic and imagination.
Beneath these diverse interests lies a lifelong curiosity about the stories people tell—and the truths those stories preserve.
The Birth of The Heirs of the Hollow
The Heirs of the Hollow grew from Armand's fascination with supernatural folklore across cultures, shaped by a lifetime of growing up, traveling, and working in different parts of the world.
He noticed that although cultures may be separated by oceans, languages, and centuries, many share remarkably similar stories. Spirits that linger after death. Creatures that stalk the night. Beings that change their appearance. Places that people refuse to enter after dark.
The names may change, but the fears often remain strangely familiar.
From the terrifying creatures of Philippine mythology and the restless spirits of Japan to the ancient legends of India, Africa, and the British Isles, the series explores a simple but compelling question:
What if the creatures our ancestors warned us about were real?
Rather than treating folklore as a collection of monsters to be defeated, Armand approaches these stories as windows into cultural memory. Behind every haunting lies a history. Behind every legend, a belief. And behind many monsters, a human tragedy waiting to be understood.
At the center of the series is the Callahan family, whose encounters with the supernatural take them across the world. Through Jack, Maggie, Marc, and their growing circle of friends and allies, Armand explores family, grief, loyalty, courage, and the responsibility of remembering those whom history has forgotten.
His writing blends cinematic horror, international adventure, cultural folklore, family humor, and emotional storytelling. The supernatural may drive the mysteries, but the human experience remains at their heart.
A World Beyond the Page
For Armand, storytelling is another form of exploration.
Growing up in different countries taught him that the world cannot be understood through a single culture or perspective. Working internationally reinforced that understanding, revealing how deeply history, traditions, and beliefs influence the way people see and experience the world.
His experiences in science, photography, travel, and technology have also shaped his belief that the world is far more extraordinary than most people realize.
He is particularly drawn to places where history and legend intersect, where ancient traditions continue to influence modern life, and where the natural world can feel both beautiful and terrifying.
Through The Heirs of the Hollow, he invites readers to explore those places, encounter their mysteries, and discover that the most frightening stories are sometimes the ones humanity has been telling for centuries.
Because every culture has its monsters. And every monster has a story.
Armand Poblete is the author of The Heirs of the Hollow, beginning with Book One, Songs for the Unquiet Dead, followed by Book Two, The Names the Dark Remembers.
